
Sydney’s drawings and paintings have been juried into regional and national exhibitions and have won numerous awards. She is a juried member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Potomac Valley Watercolorists, and earned signature membership in the Virginia Watercolor Society. While living in Virginia, Sydney was a member of the Art League located at the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria. From 2004-2006, she served on the board of directors as Secretary and Events Chair for the Maryland Federation of Art located in Annapolis, Maryland. She is currently a member of the Portrait Society of America; the Visual Art Exchange, Raleigh, North Carolina; and the North Carolina Watercolor Society.
After studying English literature in college and having a successful career in retail fashion in boutiques from Palm Beach to Georgetown, Sydney returned to painting, taking classes that revived both her skill and passion. She has studied with Mary Whyte, Roberta Carter Clark, Arne Westerman, Carolyn Gawerecki, and Lisa Semerad. Sydney has painted over 90 portrait commissions since getting back to full-time painting in 1994. Sydney currently lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband, Steve, and her constant studio companion Maine Coon-cat-muse, Stella.
